swinstall

Hi,

When we try to update our HP-UX 10.20 machine with patch PHSS_21957, we get the following message:
* Beginning Selection
* Target connection succeeded for "hpsc:/".
* "hpsc:/tmp/PHSS_22945.depot": This source is a tape device.
* "hpsc:/tmp/PHSS_22945.depot": Cannot open the logfile on this target or source. Possibly the media is read-only or there is a permission problem. Check the daemon logfile and "/var/tmp/swagent.log" on this host for more information.
ERROR: Cannot continue the "swinstall" task.
* Selection had errors.

We have no idea what is wrong, we have root access and we would be grateful for any hint...

thanks.

Re: swinstall

Hello,

here are a few things you can try:

- uname -a
- model
- download the patch again
- make sure that it is for the correct model/os
- try the gui and if done try from the command line
- check dependencies for the patch
- check for the latest sd ux patch

That's all I can think about right now :-)

Re: swinstall

looks loke the patch is corrupt -cannot open log file. Have you checked the permissions and the /var/adm/swagent.log for info. as the error says.If you downloaded the patch from the net, when you unshar'd the patch did it give any checkum error. As suggested in previous reply, you should try re-downloading the patch.

good luck.

Re: swinstall

SD depot files are really tar archives. You should try to run

# tar tvf /tmp/PHSS_21957.depot

to check whether this is a valid tar file.

Re: swinstall

Hmmmm.. could also be a problem with access rights. Your source is a remote host. Do you have the necessary rights on this remoteconnection?

Check your /.rhosts for the necessary root access. Sounds like swinstall isn't able to open a log file on the remote host. So to me this seems like a root access problem.

If your depot file is ok (check like mentioned above) you should go for the access rights.

Hope this helps. Stefan
