Switching disk systems back and forth

We have a k460 server running 10.20, Jamaicas for disk systems, we are building a new disk system on an HVD10. This server can only be down for a limited time. My question is: Is it possible to bring the system down, move the SCSI cables from the Jamaicas to the HVD10's, reboot and begin the process of OS install, filesystem creation, etc, on the disks within the HVD10, and then move the cables back to the Jamaicas, and reboot with the original configuration? Because the downtime must be short, I will have to repeat this process numerous times until the configuration is finished. So can I switch between disk systems without any adverse effects? Thanks!
just do it!

Jenifer:

Instead of switching connections, etc. interact with the boot menus and select the boot path you want. In this fashion, you can break your downtimes into smaller units.

Re: Switching disk systems back and forth

Hi Jennifer,

You bet. I suggest that you set your alternate boot path to your present 10.20 configuration and then set your new configuration to the primary boot path. Your install is going to set the primary path so that is why I suggest you let the old configuration use the alternate boot path. You then interrupt the boot process and BOOT PRI or BOOT ALT.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi Jennifer,

I agree with James and Clay's responses.
BOOT PRI and BOOT ALT allows you to have an elegent manner by which you avoid cabling and recabling disks ( could dammage the interface itself ...).
