switching NIS server for system upgrade
Hello,
I'm planning to upgrade (new install) two 11.00 HPUX servers.
One of this server is Master NIS and the other is slave and client.
My questions are :
- how to switch the roles (slave becomes Master)
- After upgrade of my first 11.00 (--> 11iv1), can i transfer hpUX11.00 master server role to hpux 11iv1 new server ?
Thanks a lot

If I didn't want to read the manuals, I'd
probably move/copy all the map source files
to the new master, stop all the yp*
processes, and then run "ypinit" (with "-m"
or "-s", as appropriate) on all the servers.

I don't see why not (but that may not be
worth much).

Re: switching NIS server for system upgrade
Shalom,
After the cold install of server 1, copy all the NIS infrastructure, the files, and configuration to the new 11i v1 (11.11) server.
Bring up the NIS service ane make sure it works, ypwhich, ypmake and such.
Then you can proceed with the cold install of the second server. You can fool your NIS clients by temporarily grabbing the IP address of the down server for during the install.
