swlist - /var/adm/sw/patch partially deleted

How to fix if the /var/adm/sw/patch directory
is partially deleted and swlist does not
show the installed product?

swlist does work but from the total of 35 or so product/patches only a few are listed.

I would like to install a DCE security patch
on this server but not sure if I have all of the pre-requisite DCE patches installed.

Also, does this cause "dceexec" messages in syslog?

Thanks.

Re: swlist - /var/adm/sw/patch partially deleted

ermm, pardon my ignorance. Are we talking about HP-UX 10.20 ?? - I could find these directories in 11.X machines, the IPD directory is /var/adm/sw/products. However, irrespective of the OS version, I dont believe there is a way to restore the files from the system.

If you have a recovery tapes or any other kind of backup then you can restore from them

Re: swlist - /var/adm/sw/patch partially deleted

Okay..first thanks for the reply
the server is running on 10.20
and i do have a similar server with similar
patch level ..i copied the patch directory from the other server but that did not work

do i have to restart swagentd ?
or do i need to reboot the server?
would either one from above work in my case?

Thanks.

Re: swlist - /var/adm/sw/patch partially deleted

well you might want to try swverify

# swverify \*

I don't know if it will help you.

restarted swagentd, will probably not help you, but you can try it, without hurting anything.

The best course of action, would have been to use your last ignite tape and restore the system, or recovering from another backup the /var/adm/sw/patch directory.

Re: swlist - /var/adm/sw/patch partially deleted

L.S.

As you may know, this directory contains information about patches, enabling you to undo a patch installation. If files have been removed, you cannot undo the installation anymore. There is a command for UX10 to commit patches, which one usually uses after a period of a few weeks after installing patches. I forgot the UX10 command name. Is it cleanup?

I don't think the patch directory has a relationship to swlist output about installed products / patches.

Just try and install the new DCE security patch. If prerequisites are not met, swinstall will tell you and you have to install more patches.

Yes I agree with JP. /var/adm/sw/patch should not have any effect on your swlist.

Re: swlist - /var/adm/sw/patch partially deleted

Yikes !!

Ultimately, you should re-install the software/patches to make sure they are still clean. However, the less painful route is restoring this directory from backups. It is not as safe, but you may get away with it. If the backup is too old this may come back to bite you later.
