swremove

I am reinstalling WebSphere Message Broker on my HP box. I removed the 3 related packages via "swremove" and afterwards emptied the content of their respective directories /var/mqsi and /opt/mqsi. Yet when I launch the install utility, it complains about being unable to install it because there is an existing version?
I have looked in /tmp and /var/tmp for any
relevant files and directories and for hidden files in the 2 directories noted above. How can I clear it's head?

Re: swremove

swlist -l fileset | grep -i WebSphere

just check here if anything exists, you need to remove it.

Hope this helps..

also you can launch swremove on GUI mode and check one by one all filesets..you can remove one relevant then..

Re: swremove

I had run the "swremove" in GUI mode. I slected only the WebSphere Message Broker
products for removal. These are add on tools
to the overall WebSphere product. So the
WebSphere product is still there. An "swlist" reveals no "Message Broker" ( aka mqsi )or mqsi products. If I fire up "swremove" now, there are none of the products listed that I removed.

Re: swremove

Randy,

so you're OK now?
Just re-install the packages you swremoved.
If you forgot the names, check the swremove logfile.

Re: swremove

The one which are removed wont be listed.
Whatever is present, it will show and that will help you in removal of needed things..
Thanks

Re: swremove

In swremove GUI, you can select option to re-install the fileset(s), overwrite fies..So you will have to be tricky while you do it..if there is interdependency, something will be linked to your set of add-on s/w.

All the best..

Re: swremove

The problem occurs when trying to re-install the product. The install utility is
a Java GUI. I have opened a ticket with IBM Websphere to find out where the FLAG is set that the install utility is seeing.

Thanks,

Re: swremove

Randy Vincent.
FLAG? Hm...I don't think so.
Do you make sure that there isn't any process related WebSphere Message Broker?
Can you reboot the server?
If can, please try to reboot the server.

Re: swremove

Hi Randy,
Can you reinstall "WebSphere Message Broker" package with reinstall option set to true.
Execute SWINSTALL, in the main menu go to OPTIONS and select CHANGE OPTIONS.
There you check following two things:
1.Reinstall filesets even if same revision exists
2.Reinstall files even if same one already there

THen try installing the software.
Hope that works.

Re: swremove

Out for a couple of days, points assigned. The install utility is a WebSphere Java GUI. There is no "re-install" option. The server was rebooted prior to the install and
I had made sure there were no associated processes running. Working with IBM support now.
Thanks,

Randy
