swverify to fix filesystem errors

A script accidently changed some of the filesystem permissions on this Itanium 11.23

I ran:

swverify OS-Core.UX-CORE

and got a list of files with incorrect permissions, etc.

Now I would like to know how to fix it, is there an option to swverify to automatically repair these damaged files.

Re: swverify to fix filesystem errors

Hi:

# swverify -F OS-Core.UX-Core

Regards!

Re: swverify to fix filesystem errors

-F switch fixed most of them, thank you.

Now I have left a bunch of mtime errors, am I correct in thinking that they are not important? And why would that be reported as an error versus a warning?

Re: swverify to fix filesystem errors

Hi,
JRF's was the one to go for!
Lesson for me : Always read the man pages first.

Regarding mtime please see:

Unless you suspect anything, they can be ignored.

Re: swverify to fix filesystem errors

Everything appears to be working good.

I saw the -F switch in the man pages, but it said something about the vendor fix scripts and wasn't sure it was applicable.

Re: swverify to fix filesystem errors

The man pages for the software distributor were originally written with the idea that the world would embrace SD and all vendors would package their HP-UX products in SD format, thus the vendor specific reference. In reality, the vendor is HP and virtually all HP products have a fixup script in the package. This why the /var/adm/sw directory is so important (and large).
