You may have a bad /etc/inittab file that is spawning the process all the time.

You could have remesh or ssh jobs on other servers in cron bringing down the daemon.

Check bdf /var and make sure there is adequate space on the /var filesystem and that /var is actually mounted. If space is tight, the daemon could come down.

Hi

Check the file /etc/syslog.conf for any special characters in it,
Check for space availability on /var filesystem
Like others who mentioned here, the inittab file can be corrupted ,you can replace it from another similar working server.

Re: syslogd: going down on signal 15

If you see "syslogd: going down on signal 15" as the last event logged in the current syslog file and it stops logging all events despite restarting syslogd, then perhaps you can try to check if the console is in CM mode. If so, just put it back to CO mode and syslog should work fine.
