I rebooted a server that is part of a ServiceGuard cluster. The messages I would expect to see at the beginning of syslog are missing. The syslog starts with a message stating syslogd: restart. No one could have entered a command to cause this since it was just booting and I was the only one on te system. Any ideas?

Solution
Hi Clinton:
This is expected. Look at the startup script for 'syslogd" --- '/sbin/init.d/syslogd'.
You will see that '/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log' is renamed '/var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log' during startup and that a new copy of 'syslog.log' is created as an empty file; followed by a start of the syslogd daamon and a write of the string "System message logger started" into the new 'syslog.log'.
Your previous log and its messages are thus available.
Regards!
