Re: system accounting
First thing you need to do is:
man sar
man sa1

Re: system accounting
The sar program is looking for the binary file /usr/adm/sa/saXX, where XX
is the current date of the month. To create this file, do the following:
/usr/lib/sa/sadc /usr/adm/sa/sa`date +%d`
Please see the sa1(1M) man page for more information.

Re: system accounting
Do you mean system accounting? - sar is for system resource monitoring (System Activity Reporter)
For system accounting, look at:
man 1m acct

Re: system accounting
you probably don't have sar configured on your system. Do "man sar" to see how you can configure sar. Meanwhile to get the sar report for the day, try this,
/usr/lib/sa/sadc /usr/adm/sa/sa`date +%d`
Hope this helps.

Re: system accounting
See the man pages of SAM. the files 'saXX' in /var/adm/sa are the standard system activity daily data files.
System accounting and SAR are totally different.

Re: system accounting
From my very own crontab :-)
0 * * * * /usr/lbin/sa/sa1 900 4
05 22 * * * /usr/lbin/sa/sa2 -s 7:00 -e 19:01 -i 3600 -A
Once you got these running ... sar should work.
Hope this helps,
Tom Geudens
