Re: System Administration Tip

Whilst the link that Animesh gave you is full of helpful hints, it does not provide the necessary guidelines of learning proper system administration.

Other things to look at would be education and of course experience.

First course to go on would a System Adminustration course.

Get your hands on a test system in which you can experiment and learn. Books and on-line documentation are a great source.

Joseph

As Michael has said HP courses are the best start point for sysadmins, whils other companies run HP-UX admin courses it is best to do the HP courses - better also for the CV/Resume.

This forum is also a mine of information with assistance given by sysadmin from a real world environment.

Re: System Administration Tip

Post all your questions up here on the forums!... Eventually you'll get the hang of it!

I'd recommend getting a notebook and putting all your notes/fixes/observations in it.. for future reference. Only last week was I thinking.. I saw this before and fixed it somehow..

Re: System Administration Tip

Another very important way to get started is to attend the Interworks Conference at HP World. There, you'll meet many of your peers and get to listen to real-world system administration techniques in the extensive papers that will be presented. Also checkout the Interex website at www.interex.org which will have many resources including local user group meetings near your area.

Re: System Administration Tip

Hi Joseph,
Can I also recommend purchasing the book "HP Certified" by Rafeeq Ur Rehman ISBN # 0-13-018374-1
Regardless on whether or not you plan to certify, it is a great resource.
It'll run you about $50 (depending on where you get it.)
Also, besides this forum, there is a wealth of information on docs.hp.com
Best of luck with HP-UX! Hope you enjoy.

Re: System Administration Tip

Hi,

Get the Rafeeq Rehman book for HP Unix and also attend a HP education course for HP-UX and then give the certification exam - 3H0-002

Also keep on visiting the FORUMS frequently.
