system cant find any boot devices

hello

we are having big problems trying to boot our system and we have decided to rebuild it, however when we perform a search from the boot menu, it just terminates and doesnt return any hardware devices at all, even though we have 2 internal disks and a cdrom drive attached to our N4000

can anyone shed some light on the situation

Re: system cant find any boot devices

The option "sea ipl" will only give results, if the disks are bootable.
Try the pathes directly, this are the values for the internal disks:

Path# Device Path (dec) Device Path (mnem) Device Type and Utilities
----- ----------------- ------------------ -------------------------
P0 0/0/2/0.6 intscsia.6 Random access media
IPL
P1 0/0/2/1.6 intscsib.6 Random access media
IPL

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: system cant find any boot devices

John,

Are you sure your not facing a hardware problem.
Do you have an tape device attached to the server aswell, to try to boot from an Ignite tape.
Do you see any error message during system startup, in the test phase.

Re: system cant find any boot devices

the sea ipl command, fails and brings back nothing,

when you try and boot the system you get an error refering to one of the processors and the system seems to crash at the allocating_pdc_code

however i do think we may be refering to a hardware problem.

Re: system cant find any boot devices

If search is bringing back nothing, and you are getting processor errors, I would definitly gave a service engineer out. It sounds like a hardware issue to me.

If I had only read the instructions first??

Re: system cant find any boot devices

"an error refering to one of the processors"
- more details? But sounds like a HW problem already.

Hope this helps!

Re: system cant find any boot devices

Hi,
try to go in Information Menù (in) and in Configuration Menù (co) and check for cpu configuration status.

In Information Menù you can check for Selftest Warning also.

Re: system cant find any boot devices

hi thanks for all your help so far. i have managed to progress a little further, but we now have another problem, when i perform the sea i now see the two internal hard disks but still unable to see the cdrom.
However when i bring the system up and perform an ioscan -fnC disk, i can see the cdrom drive fine and it is claimed.

Anyone got any thoughts

John

Re: system cant find any boot devices

You can try to powercycle the DVD device.
What gives "diskinfo -v ..."?

Hope this helps!
