system halted but there is no entry in the shutdownlog

Hi all:

Got a HPUX 11.00 on A500-7X.
Fan went out and was system was halted with OVERTEMP_EMERG WARNING. Temperature exceed the OVERTEMP_CRIT threshold.

Question is, why wasn't the shutdownlog updated? The system was halted. The shutdownlog has entries for prior reboots and halts.

Re: system halted but there is no entry in the shutdownlog

At this point, a shutdown is NOT performed. Essentially power is cut to the system.

The following is from a doc for the L-series, but it applies equally to the A's.

If the incoming ambient air temperature exceeds 35 to 40 degrees C, the Platform Monitor will exceed the OVERTEMP_EMERG value and send the appropriate message to the envd daemon - which typically results in an OS shutdown.

If the incoming ambient air temperature exceeds 40 degrees C, the Platform Monitor will turn off the DC power in the SPU. It will not do a graceful shutdown - the ERS documents report that it will "immediately turn off power".

The 2nd paragraph is what I believe applies to your situation.
