System hangs on boot - NFS server subsystem

"Start NFS server subsystem...."

This is 11.0 L class. I waited for a long time and it still hangs. What's up with that? I didn't realize that misconfigured NFS could hang a machine like that.

Is my only option going into single user mode? boot -is?

You can use the break or the | key combo to interrupt that particular startup script, allowing the machine to finish booting. Then find out what you've got mis-configured and fix it.

somehow, after sitting overnight, it booted past it.

Thanks for the tip on getting past it.

It must have timed out. You could check /etc/rc.log to see if that's the case.
