I have a HPUX 11.11 system but all time that the console is turned off, it (system) not come back to the normal. The screen is only with prompt. I type some command but nothing. Telnel also does not work. And when this happens, I have to restart by the button.
Someone can help me? Has some command for it "to come back the life"?

Re: System in stand by
1. Turn off the HP terminal
2. Hold down the D key (letter D on the keyboard) and turn on power
3. Keep holding the key until you see the reset message.
4. Check the baud rate, the emulation mode (HP), the pacing (XON/XOFF), turn off ENQ/ACK, and set the straps: G and H to inhibit the HP3000 handshake requirements.
If your console is a PC or a non-HP dumb terminal, the terminal is probably locking up during turn-on due to handshaking. Make sure that XON/XOFF is selected and if possible, select XON=any.

Re: System in stand by
The prompt is a cursor flashing. When I reboot the system, the only thing happens is a message "STARTING MAIL DAEMON -- FAIL". I cannot say what happens with the system because i dont know HPUX very well.
Bill,
The server is a HP 9000 and the console is a 700/96 model. I did the 1-3 stets but nothing happens. The prompt blinks and nothing.
How I check the baud rate? How I select XON=any?

Re: System in stand by
To cancel current tasks, use CTRL-C (hold the ctrl key down and press the letter c). You don't need to change the baud rate or the XON/XOFF setting becuase the terminal is already working OK.
Now the failure of telnet is a different issue but you'll have fix all the current problems first. Start by rebooting your computer and make sure that *all* of the startup sequences are finished and you can get a login prompt. There may be several things, especially networking, that need to be fixed. You may need expert help on this. Once startup is complete, you should be able to turn off the terminal at any time and back on again without any issue.

Re: System in stand by
As clarified by Bill you can stop any process when it is starting by pressing the Ctrl+C, another way of bypassing it is by pressing the Delete Key. Let us know after coming at which service the cursor starts blinking ? Try by pressing ctrl+c or Del key and check wheather system comes to login prompt.
