Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

Obviously it is not installed, because of missing dependencies. I did not found the details I was looking for.

Let's try this:

# swinstall -s /var/depot-file.depot \*

this will start a non-interactive session.

Capture the output.

At the end of the screen you will find a line like

swjob -a log appsrv1-0037 @ appsrv1:/

but with a different session number (0037).

Execute this command and attach the output too.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

There is currently no depot software on host "appsrv1" at location â â
â â â â â "/var/SysMgmtWeb_A.3.2.0_HP-UX_B.11.23_IA_PA.depot*". Make sure that â â â â
â â â an absolute pathname is specified for location (beginning with "/").

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

Use this exactly as shown:

swinstall -s /var/SysMgmtWeb_A.3.2.0_HP-UX_B.11.23_IA_PA.depot \*

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

From the SMH install guide, there are required packages.
It is probably looking for a minimum version for these:

For 11.23:

HP-UX Apache-based Web Server
pkg hpuxwsApache (not hpuxws22Apache)
path /opt/hpws/apache

OpenSSL
pkg OpenSSL
path /opt/openssl

HP-UX Common System Management Enablers
pkg SysMgmtBase
path /usr/sam
& /opt/hpsmh/lib

I'm a little pessimistic about just installing on top because of the 3rd item. A complete update-ux to latest 11.23 Release may be required.

BUT,
perhaps all he wants is the latest OpenSSL, so you could try updating that first.

Then, if that doesn't work, maybe the Apache server.

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

Ahhh
I see now your output.

It clearly says that Apache 2.0 is not installed in correct state.

It also mentions Apache 2.2, but the manual says that 2.2 is only for HPUX 11.31.

So, what's your Apache version?

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

Ouch!
It also mentions

"SysMgmtBase.SMH-UILIB"
...
.
So, I'm worried.
You might find them on the Installation DVDs.

Personally, I would try to re-install the current version and then resolve the connection problem.

I also see :

The software "SysMgmtHomepage.SMH-RUN,l=/,r=A.2.2.7" is not in

AGAIN, I think that you should **re-install** your current A.2.2.7 from your original DVDs
.
That will probably resolve your original problem, as well as perhaps allowing an upgrade to 3.2.0

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

Well, that doesn't seem good..

TWO versions of Apache ??

Did you update Apache to 2.2 ?

I've got a few more questions:

Did SMH ever work?
How/who/when was the O/S installed?
Did you install/update any patches or software since the time it worked or since the system was installed.

It looks like you should remove all Apache and re-install Apache 2.0

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

If anything was installed (by someone previously) that depends on Apache 2.2,
then it could certainly break.
So, you might be headed down a tortuous path.

E.g., there may be an *Application* that is specifically using/needing 2.2 for all you know, since you know nothing about this system.

This is a bad place to be.

Anyway, to remove it;

## ( opt="
-x mount_all_filesystems=false \
-x autoselect_dependents=false \
-x enforce_dependencies=false \
"
swremove $opt hpuxws22Apache
)

This will only remove hpuxws22Apache and not any of its dependents that may have been installed.
That way you can re-install it, if necessary.
But that could also present problems later.

To re-install Apache 2.0 and SMH 2.2.7
mount the correct Installation DVD
and verify via 'swlist' the versions therein of
hpuxwsApache & SysMgmtWeb
.
Then install with:

## ( opt="
-x mount_all_filesystems=false \
-x reinstall=true \
-x allow_multiple_versions=false \
"
swinstall $opt -s \
hpuxwsApache \
SysMgmtWeb
)

This would also select other dependencies from the DVD that are not installed on the system, but you may run into issues of later versions of dependencies that are installed already.

Re: System Management Homepage server could not be started successfully

I see that the problems that all this can cause are more important than accessing SMH, so I will leave it as it is. Thank you anyway for trying to help me. I was hoping it was smth quick. Take care.
