Re: System monitoring software for vPars
Because a vpar has normal network access, you can install any tool you wish.
EMS can be used.
You can use the top portion of http://www.hpux.ws/system.perf.sh to monitor CPU usage and send alerts under circumstances.
A vpar is a system, you can run anything on it you can run on a normal system.

Re: System monitoring software for vPars
Thanks for the quick answer. EMS certainly sounds like it could do the job. However, I understated our goal in my original post. In addition to alerts on CPU, memory, and other hardware, we want to gather performance data to do trending. We use to use LUND's performance monitor on our rx7620 and rp7420 but since we went to the virtual platform(vPars), LUND no longer works as the product is not supported on vPars, according to the vendor.
I've done a bit of reseraching and I am finding that most systems/performance monitoring softwares out there do not support systems running on vPars yet. The only ones I found so far that advirtise that they do are OpenView, and NetIQ AppManager. Any experience with those two prodcuts or know of any additional candidates?
Thank You,
Dana

Re: System monitoring software for vPars
For your trend analysis, I am not sure how deep of an analysis that you need but, hp hands out statmon for free when you install the operating system. For our general overview to the management purposes, it works good enough to collect data and present in a web interface.
As we do not have any vPar partitioned servers here, I can not tell you the exact suitability for the purpose, but since it is not anything so highly sophisticated in my opinion, it might as well work for you.
Hope this helps

Re: System monitoring software for vPars
There are dozens of good tools in this thread and two others that are linked in and preceeded it.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=51050
EMS can probably do most of what you wish, but probably not all.
gpm can also do a lot of what you wish also.

Re: System monitoring software for vPars
Your imput has been very helpful. Perhaps the readily and freely available tools you mentioned will do the job as far as what we're looking for. I will look into the details.
But if anyone is interested in other products, based on what I've researched so far, the following products supposedly support system performance monitoring on VPARs:
OpenView
Citteo's Watchtower
NetIQ AppManager
Thanks again!
