T5500 Compaq Console

We have a rp7420 HPUX Server which comes, by default with a Compaq T5500 Thinclient Console.
We have two of these new terminals. One connects
to /dev/console, not a problem hooking up.
The other, though, is connected to a PCI Mux
card with one of those "fan cables" with 8 ports. We have been very unsuccessful with getting this second console to function from the
mux card. We have had the HP tech here and talked to many tech on the telephone with no success.
We do know that this second thinclient console
work because we have connected it to the main
console port with success. However we cannot get it to function with this mux card.
Any ideas???

An ioscan does show the Mux card and it is claimed

Re: T5500 Compaq Console

Did you configured the MUX ports? What processes are running on thses ports - getty? Did you check the cables?

Re: T5500 Compaq Console

we have configured the mux ports or should I say we added a terminal to the correctport in SAM. We do currently also have amodem running on another mux port which is running well.

Re: T5500 Compaq Console

Is there a getty process running on the port where you connected your tarminal? Did you try connecting to any other ports on the MUX. I would also check the terminal settings (term type, bits, stop bit, parity etc) matches with the port settings.

Yes,
We have tried on three other ports and various
stop bits settings with no success. These
thinclient consoles did not even come with
instructions on how to hook them up!

Re: T5500 Compaq Console

If you have a normal HP console available, try connecting that to the port and see if you get a login screen. Check on the web and make sure you are using the right cable for your thin client. What abt the getty process? Is that running?
