Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

We recently purchased an L9000 series server. We got 2 Tachyon TL/TS HBA's. At the time the server was configured, the HBA's reported to be in loop mode when I ran the fcmsutil. I needed these's HBA's in fabric mode, so that I can configure them into my EMC Clariion SAN. I applied a series of patches including PHSS_24121. After doing so, I get the following on each HBA:
fcmsutil /dev/td0

Vendor ID is = 0x00103C
Device ID is = 0x001028
PCI Sub-system Vendor ID is = 0x00103C
PCI Sub-system ID is = 0x000006
Topology = Topology is Unknown
Local N_Port_id is = 0x610E13

How can I correct this and get my HBA's into fiber aware mode?

Thanks,

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

I have run tddiag on the HBA's and have the following report. I hope this helps.

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

Eric,

What is the product number for the Tachyonlite Fibre channel card? The A5158A are auto-config and will configure itself in Fabric (or loop) depending on how the switch port is configured.

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

I'm using the A5158A HBA's. These HBA's were in loop mode when we first installed the server. I found a driver that should have made it fabric aware, but I couldn't install it. swinstall claimed that it wasn't meant for my system.
I install several patches related to fabre channel, and after the last one I couldn't get any stat's on the card whether it was in loop or fabric mode. lssf /dev/td0 tells me lssf: Don't know how to handle driver "td"
root@hpsan01 [/dev] # fcmsutil /dev/td0

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

Eric,
You must install the following Tachyon FCMS patche *prior* to installing the A5158A driver:
PHKL_23626 or later for HP-UX 11i

Also do a
swlist -l fileset -a state | grep PH | more

All patches should show up as "configured" - if patches are found in the "installed" state: manually configure the patch by issuing the swconfig patch command. If any patches are in a "transient" state, contact HP for assistance before proceeding with product installation. All patches must be in a configured state before proceeding.

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

Thanks,
I tried installing that patch before, and it didn't work. I just now redownloaded it, and tried to install it again. Here is the output of the error:

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

so what driver version do you have installed??
swlist -l product and look for the T/L or TachLite driver.
It must be a minimum of 11.04 if I remember correctly, and there is a spcific way of installing the driver plus patches.
go see:

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

Here is the output of my swlist

FibrChanl-00 B.11.11.03 PCI FibreChannel;Supptd HW=A5158A

I tried to install the new driver, which is B.11.11.09, however it won't install because I'm missing the dependency. The patch dependency however won't install either.

So I'm still stuck.

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

I managed to get PHKL_23626 install:

root@hpsan01 [/tmp] # swlist -l file | grep PHKL_23626
# PHKL_23626 1.0 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Patch
# PHKL_23626.CORE2-KRN 1.0 OS-Core.CORE2-KRN
PHKL_23626.CORE2-KRN: /usr/conf/lib/fcms.o
# PHKL_23626.FCMS-ENG-A-MAN 1.0 FCMassStorage.FCMS-ENG-A-MAN
PHKL_23626.FCMS-ENG-A-MAN: /usr/share/man/man1m.Z/fcmsutil.1m
# PHKL_23626.FCMS-KRN 1.0 FCMassStorage.FCMS-KRN
PHKL_23626.FCMS-KRN: /usr/conf/lib/libfcms.a
# PHKL_23626.FCMS-RUN 1.0 FCMassStorage.FCMS-RUN
PHKL_23626.FCMS-RUN: /opt/fcms/bin/fcmsutil

However I still can't get A5158A_11.00.depot installed.

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

Are you using HP-UX 11.11? IF you are using 11.0 uninstall the driver and try installing the patch PHKL_23939 for 11.0. Please check if all the dependent patches are on the system.
for example PHKL_18543 is needed before you can install PHKL_23939 for 11.0

Re: Tachyon TL Fibre Channel Driver

I removed the fibre channel patch PHKL_26243, and install PHKL_23626.
I then install A5158_11.11.depot

After the reboots, I did an fcmsutil /dev/td0, and it showed fabric.

root@hpsan01 [/var/adm/syslog] # fcmsutil /dev/td0

Vendor ID is = 0x00103c
Device ID is = 0x001028
TL Chip Revision No is = 2.3
PCI Sub-system Vendor ID is = 0x00103c
PCI Sub-system ID is = 0x000006
Topology = PTTOPT_FABRIC
Local N_Port_id is = 0x610e13

N_Port Port World Wide Name = 0x50060b00000b65ac
Driver state = ONLINE
Hardware Path is = 0/4/0/0
Number of Assisted IOs = 105
Number of Active Login Sessions = 0

root@hpsan01 [/var/adm/syslog] #

I then logged into my Mcdata switch and zoned it in.

I'm getting some weirdness now, but I think I'm going to do a few things before I open another question on the forum.

You guys are great.
