Re: Taking backup from one hp-ux to another hp-ux server

You can use vxdump for this

vxdump -0uf 10.10.9.54:/dev/rmt/3mn /data1

Hi,
then you can use ftp or rcp to copy data from one host to another.

Re: Taking backup from one hp-ux to another hp-ux server

Hi Anand,

Thanks for the response. Can I use nfs export and then mount and copy? Please tell me the steps if it is possible in HP-UX.

Thanks

Re: Taking backup from one hp-ux to another hp-ux server

hi Gabar,

If you want to use NFS, you just have to "export" the file system on the source system and then mount the file system remotely on the destination system. After that, you can just use normal copy commands to copy the files to local directories.

Step 1. On the source system: Export file system that you want to access remotely.
. edit /etc/exports
. add lines similar to the following:
/backup -anon=65534,root=destserver
(you may also use sam: SAM Areas:Networking and Communications->Networked File Systems-> Exported Local File Systems)

Step 2. On remote/destination system:
option 1. Edit you /etc/fstab
. add line:
sourceserver.domain.mu:/backup /mnt/sourceserver nfs rw,suid,vers=3 0 0

option 3. Use mount command to mount the remote file system.
mount sourceserver.domain.mu:/backup /mnt/sourceserver
...

Please give it a try and let us know about the outcome.

hope this helps!

kind regards

Re: Taking backup from one hp-ux to another hp-ux server

Please use the following steps

In source system,
1.edit /etc/exports and make the directory entries.
2./sbin/init.d/nfs.server start
3.exportfs -a

In client system,
1.make mount point
2./sbin/init.d/nfs.client start
3.mount -F nfs nfsserver:exporteddirectory /mountpoint

Anand

Re: Taking backup from one hp-ux to another hp-ux server

7 Gb is a lot of data so the first consideration is whether the link is fast enough to get the job done in less than a week. Here are the approximate data transfer speeds based on the connection (actual throughput is about 70% of the link speed):

28Kb/sec modem = 2Kbytes/sec = 7.5Mbytes/hr = 180Mbytes/day (7Gb will take 1 week)

1Mb/sec DSL/T1 = 70Kbytes/sec = 250Mbytes/hr = 6Gbytes/day

10Mb/sec LAN = 700Kbytes/sec = 2.5Gbytes/hr = 60 Bytes/day

100Mb/sec LAN = 7Mbytes/sec = 25Gbytes/hr = 600Gbytes/day

Naturally, the LAN connection used for this transfer will be very busy. ftp will be the fastest method but does not recurse through subdirectories. You would have to script the transfer.
