Tape copy from MPE/ix

I have some DLT tapes that were made on an HP 3000/MPE machine using roadrunner. What I need to do is simply produce copies ofm the tapes. Unfortunately, dd does not seem to be able to "see" the data. I have tried all standard block sizes from 128 to 4096 without success.

Any hints from the gurus.

Thanks. Unfortunately, that document points to an MPE command that can copy tapes in various formats (including tar). What I need is an HP-UX command that can handle the tape format made by roadrunner on the 3000.

Alan, I can't spell MPE but is it possible that you are overlooking the obvious. Was the MPE box a DLT7000/DLT8000 and you are trying to read the tape using a lesser drive (e.g. DLT4000) ?
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Afraid not, Clay. Tape was made on a DLT4000. I am trying to read it on a DLT7000 and copy to another DLT4000.

Hi Alan,

Check this document too. This says about different block sizes and the limitation:
