Tape drive change
I have one d230 running on 10.20. It has one DLT4000 attahced to it. ioscan -fnCtape shows NO_HW...so I believe that the drive has gone bad. Do I need to shutdown the server before replacing the drive? or it can be done while system is running? if I connect it while system is online, will it claim it?
Thanks.Vikas

Try the ioscan and see what happens.

Re: Tape drive change
As long as there is no I/O activity to the device (which there obviously isn't) you can safely replace it. An ioscan after the fact may well claim it. If not, you can reboot at your convenience.

Re: Tape drive change
Check for bent pins on the cables, and the try another terminator if you have one available.

Re: Tape drive change
Actually, I should qualify my previous answer:
"as long as there is no I/O activity on the bus you can safely replace it". If there are other devices on the same bus, make sure they are inactive as well.
