Tape drive error

I am taking ignite backup of HPUX 11.23 itanium based server but it is giving the following error:

* Checking Versions of Ignite-UX filesets
ERROR: Failed to open tape device /dev/rmt/4mn:Permission denied (errno =
13).
ERROR: Check tape device failed.

======= 02/02/09 14:08:52 EST make_tape_recovery completed unsuccessfully

Can some one give me some clue please?

Re: Tape drive error

Hi!!

Can you please post the output of:

#ioscan -fnC tape

That's where I would first look.

What model of system/tape drive is it?
Should have been an astronaut.

Here is the output of ioscan:

tape 0 3/0/1/1/0/4/1.1.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE H
P C5683A
/dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/c5t1d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/0mb /dev/rmt/c5t1d0BESTnb
/dev/rmt/0mn /dev/rmt/c5t1d0DDS
/dev/rmt/0mnb /dev/rmt/c5t1d0DDSb
/dev/rmt/c5t1d0BEST /dev/rmt/c5t1d0DDSn
/dev/rmt/c5t1d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c5t1d0DDSnb

The system is rx8620 and the tape drive is DDS4.

Re: Tape drive error

Hello,

Simple answer. You are using wrong tape device
in Ignite backups.

There is no /dev/rmt/4mn. Your tape drive
is /dev/rmt/0mn.

Use make_tape_recovery with correct option
to point to the right tape drive.
