Solution
Hi Fadia,
Do you have a tape drive installed on the server?. Do a 'ioscan -f' and search for the string 'tape'. If you have one, then run 'insf -e -C stape' and 'insf -e -CCtape2'. If you don't have a tape drive installed, then there is no need for you to have that directory (that may be the reason why). Device files are not to be copied from one system to another in general unless you know what you are doing. Just to let you know - 'tar' will help to copy device files, but I am not suggesting you do it.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try

Re: tape file
Yes, you must have a tape drive installed on the server.
Normaly, if there is an tape array attach to your server, it will automatic reconize and install device and you can see it in :
/dev/rmt
If have tape drive and you can follow Sri recommend or can reboot the server.
You can see all of the tape drive with ioscan -fnC tape
The result like this:
#ioscan -fnC tape
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
========================================================================
tape 0 0/0/1/0.2.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1537A
/dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/0mnb /dev/rmt/c0t2d0BESTn /dev/rmt/c0t2d0DDSb
/dev/rmt/0mb /dev/rmt/c0t2d0BEST /dev/rmt/c0t2d0BESTnb /dev/rmt/c0t2d0DDSn
/dev/rmt/0mn /dev/rmt/c0t2d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c0t2d0DDS /dev/rmt/c0
Hope this helps
Regard,
Jimkery

Re: tape file
Those are all device files.
If you have a tape drive on the present system those files can be installed using
#insf -e
