Tape upgrade
We are looking to upgrade from our present omniback II, 4/48 7000 dlt tape system, that backs up our EMC & NT disks. Any suggestion of products, hardware and software that will improve performance and back up times, will be appreciated.

Re: Tape upgrade
Hi,
Since you are already running DLT7000's, I would bypass the DLT8000's and go to Ultrium.
You will see about a 5x or so performance increase (if you can feed it data at that rate)
per drive. I would say something like a 10/180 library would be your next logical step.
As for software, OmniBack or Veritas would be my choices and it is probably time to look at a SAN environment. I assume that you are already using TimeFinder, split mirrors, and/or VxFS snapshots to effectively increase your backup window so that speed is no so important.
I can say, that St. Bernard Software Open File Manager is a great solution for NT backups when used in conjunction with OmniBack.
Regards, Clay

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
