oracle 10g 10.2.0.1 with rac
OS :HP-UX 11i
I am working as oracle dba.
when i am taking backup's on tape(HP DDS-4)some of files are copying and after sometime i am getting the TAR: TAPE ERROR(5).
I am using this command-
/usr/bin/tar cvf /dev/rmt/0m ora*
/usr/bin/tar rvf /dev/rmt/0m ora*
what the problem is and how to get rid of it ?

Try cleaning the drive it will resolve the issue.

Clean drive, replace with new tape, test.
I do not recall ever seeing and error in the format like "TAR: TAPE ERROR(5)" but you never know. Typically you get a simple "io error".
