TCP/IP on HP-UX

Hi: We?ve got a problem with two HP9000 with HP-UX 11. Both have 4 LAN, so each par have got their intern and extern IP adresses. Our question is, can this four LAN belong to the same net or we will need to have one subnet for each LAN?

Re: TCP/IP on HP-UX

Hi,

Each IP address can be on the same subnet. But in a ServiceGuard environment, this will probably introduce a SPOF (Single Point Of Failure): switch, router, ...

Therefor, it is better to have at least one of the interfaces on a different subnet.

Hope this helps,
Rik.

Re: TCP/IP on HP-UX

It depends what you are trying to do. Is this a Serviceguard environment?

Be aware though that if you have multiple LAN cards in the same subnet that all outgoing traffic will go via one interface, probably the last one configured due to the way that routing works.

If bandwidth is the problem then you could investigate Port Aggregation but this does need a compatible switch.
