TCPdump and ethereal do not show outgoing packets
Hi all
with a workstation J5000 HP-UX 10.20
i can't visualize outgoing packets (with TCPdump / ethereal).
For example with the command :
tcpdump host XXX (run on MyHost)
i can only see the packets
XXXX ---> MiHost
But i can show all incoming and outgoing packets with nettl.
With other system (solaris / linux) this problem does not appear.
(i used same version of TCPdump / ethereal and libpcap lib downloaded from HPUX software archive)
Could be a patch problem ?
Thank
Andrea Boniardi

Re: TCPdump and ethereal do not show outgoing packets
Hello there,
This is a problem fixed with patch PHNE_20892 for the PCI card.
5. Applications do not receive outbound traffic from the interface when they enable promiscuous mode on the interface.
To trace the outbound packets, do the following before running promiscuous applications like snoop or tcpdump:
adb -w /stand/vmunix /dev/mem
lanc_outbound_promis_flag/W 1
(adb will echo the result showing that the flag has been changed)
$quit
