Re: Tcpwrapper

tcpd??

It should be called by inetd and services should start and be logged from tcpd.

Re: Tcpwrapper

Hello,

check your local "/etc/inetd.conf" to make "inetd" call the "tcpd" and not the usual daemons directly.

Re: Tcpwrapper

Hello

tcpd should be called by inetd and thus you won't see any 'special' processes in your server. Its task is simple: It checks the /etc/hosts.deny and /etc/hosts.allow file and denies/grants access to a specific server based on certain criteria.

The easiest way to check the operation is

1) make sure you have the 'tcpd' wrapper before the actual daemons in /etc/inetd.conf

2) Create a simple /etc/hosts.deny rule that denies access to everybody in a port (say, telnet or smtp). Then try to telnet in. If you're able to, tcpd is not working properly.

Re: Tcpwrapper

Hi,

To check that your tcpwrapper configurations are correct, use tcpdchk that comes with the tcpwrapper package.

tcpdchk examines your tcp wrapper configuration and reports all potential and real problems it can find.

TCP Wrappers is available on HP-UX 11i platform as a web upgrade.

You can easily compile it from the source downloaded from the porcupine ftp site which I believe you did.

Hope this helps. Regards.
