Telnet issue

I'm baffled!!

I've just set up a new user today, using /usr/bin/rksh as it's shell. I can su to the user just fine. I can even type "login USER" and it prompts me for the password and I can log in just fine. I can FTP in as that user as well.
BUT...
When I try to telnet in and log in as that user, all I get is "Login incorrect". I know I'm missing something and I just can't put my finger on it.
I'm running 11.0. There are no entries in /var/adm/inetd.sec. I don't get any log messages that I can find, so I'm not seeing any additional information to go on.

Any ideas. I can telnet in fine with any other login id.

Re: Telnet issue

are there any special characters in the password? we have had issues in the past where a user uses passwords with a # or an @ symbol in it and it works for ftp but not telnet

Re: Telnet issue

Thanks Ken.

The password did have an @ symbol in it. I changed it and can get in just fine now.

I had never seen/heard of that before.

Re: Telnet issue

It is somehow transport/client related I used to have a password containing "!" on a lan switch, and it worked, and some day I cleared the password to an empty default - when I tried to re-enter the old password it wouldn't let me log in anymore.

someday I'll hopefully completely understand it...
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
