Re: TELNET's handshake?

telnet = RFC 854

A search using google.com and the words rfc telnet turned up this reference:

http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc854.html

Like most networking protocols, they are usually defined with an RFC. If you want to browse the different standards, use:

http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/

Re: TELNET's handshake?

There is one nice searchable site for RFCs. Try this one

http://www.rfc-editor.org/cgi-bin/rfcsearch.pl

If you search for telnet with the title field, you will get more RFCs for various telnet options.

Re: TELNET's handshake?

The rfc is the way to go as mentioned above. Just a little info though, telnet uses the TCP protocol at the Transport Layer (remember the OSI model?) TCP is connection oriented and uses a three-way handshake. Simplified descriptions of the 3-way handshake can be found at many web sites if you search... rfc can be little confusing. Primary resource should always be the rfc.

Re: TELNET's handshake?

Noma,

There are many flavors of telnet code floating around on the Internet. Use your favorite search engine and you should be able to find some Public Domain code (Linux or BSD) that will answer the questions for you, or which you might be able to use directly.

Hope this helps,
