telnetd: getpid: peer died: Error 0

Hi Gurus,

I recieved above error on my 9000/800/N4000-55 HP server. This error is received first time and did not repeat again. But due to this error, my server was out of network for around 30 mins. Now everything is working fine. But need to diagnose the cause.

Thanks,
Siddhesh.

Hi

This error means that the tcp/ip connection to the telnet client has terminated abnormally.

Re: telnetd: getpid: peer died: Error 0

It happens frequently. It usually means that a telnet client closed out a session improperly.

There are many threads here on ITRC which discuss various variations of the issue, just do a search on yoru message subject.

Re: telnetd: getpid: peer died: Error 0

It is possible that due to single abnormal closure of client, server goes off from the network?

Thanks,
Siddhesh.

nothing to worry about in my opinion either unless you are having major network outages. This error get caused maily by a networking equipment malfunction between the telnet client and the server. Under normal circumstances, there are so many of those, one having a momentary glitch is not unheard of. If it keeps happening frequently and over a long period of time, it is time to talk to your network administrators.

Re: telnetd: getpid: peer died: Error 0

Hi

It seems that you lost the network connectivity and in 30 mts it got restored . So some tlenet or some other connection which was running got disconnected abnormally. The error might have come because of that. First you verify whether the network was available when the error started coming.

if your server was totally out of the network, this may mean somebody have reboot a router and it did not come back up as quickly as expected or somebody tried to upgrade a switch/route firmware without letting you know. Unless you are the network administrator at the same time as the sysadmin, I strongly suggest talking to network people
