In my ever-viligant "google"-ing of the internet, I discovered this over the winter. A great document on the conception, history and role of UNIX in our world.

A great read for any serious Admin who wants to know a bit of the history and context of UNIX. And the original purposes of this amazing OS.

The first time I heard the word UNIX was when I was visiting a friend at MIT. There was a guy with long hair and beard, no shirt,washing up in a mens' room. I asked my friend why they let "bums" like that onto the campus. He said that is the guy that invented the EMACS editor, Stallman. His name didn't mean anything to me, but it made me interested in finding out more about UNIX.
