The Fibre Channel Tape Drive fails to display on N-Class system

I attach the IBM FC tape drive (3590 E11-F) to FC Adapter A5158A on HP-UX 11 64 bit N-class machine. The I/O system cann't detect the tape drive. Then I try to make sure the installation of the adapter using ioscan -f. I got these claimed adapter drivers: lba, fcp, td, fcpdev, but cann't see the fcT1_cntl in lan class. Nothing! but I can see the fcT1_cntl that is installed and enter to the kernel (/stand/system). What is the fcT1_cntl working for ? Is it needed for A5158A adapter?

By the way, I successfully attached the IBM SCSI tape drive (3590 E11) to this N class system with HP FC SCSI Multiplexer. The patch PHKL_21381 has installed. Firmware level is 40.25, over 40.02. The current version of Td (Tachyon TL/TS Driver) has upgraded to B.11.00.03.

Re: The Fibre Channel Tape Drive fails to display on N-Class system

Hi,

If i remember well, the fcT1_cntl is activated when the driver of the product A5158A is installed. In my case, i have an Mux FC/SCSI connected to my N Class, and it is working (Release of the driver in HPUX 11.00 : A5158A release 11.00.01).
Be careful of the compatibility of the Hardware : on some library, with N Class, direct link to the library with FC isn't always supported, and HP advise to put a mux FC/SCSI in order to work. You should check that point.

Re: The Fibre Channel Tape Drive fails to display on N-Class system

Our engineer working on the FC tape drive told me that if the Adapter A5158A doesn't support the FCtape protocol (One of FC prototol), the device willn't be detected.

Who knows if HP FC Adapter supports FCtape protocol.

Thanks.
