Timely mozilla releases for HP-UX lacking

HP has not posted a Mozilla HP-UX build in almost a year on http://www.mozilla.org/releases.

Mozilla 1.8 Alpha 2 was posted 7/14/04
Mozilla 1.7 was posted 6/17/04

Linux, MacOS and Solaris are always up to date.

What is the story here HP?

Not speaking for HP.

I am personally satisfied with HP's release schedule. They wait for stable versions, and they port them fully tested.

I have had major problems with mozilla on other platforms due to poor testing. I am much happier with stable software that I can install via SD/UX depots.

Mozilla 1.7 is so out of date?

My thoughts:

I am thinking that HP wants the desktop operations to be moved away from the HPUX systems. Every little bit of extra power and resources is good. They will delay the introduction of packages until the demand becomes great enough.

A bit.

What may be a problem release for you, may be a solution for others. You certainly would not have to deploy it, but now we do not even have a choice.

That has been my suspicion for some time. Just try to find a release of OpenOffice for HP-UX.

Re: Timely mozilla releases for HP-UX lacking

first question, if you are running hpux as a server, why would you need mozilla on it?
if you are running it on a workstation, that is bad luck.
one reason to have recent mozilla builds is security holes, they excists as well on mozilla, but with outdated versions like that you can be sure they are not patched yet.
anyway, i suppose you can always roll your own mozilla (or firefox), install all the tools/compilers, wait two hours and done :|

Security is *exactly* why I run Netscape/Mozilla on my HP-UX workstation. I constantly get spyware/malware crap infiltrating my laptop but have never seen any on my workstation!

You can always volunteer to port it yourself, making sure any changes to the process or install is forwared to Mozilla.org for future releases.
