Timeout problem - Please help !
I've got a funny problem here - we always telnet into our HP-UX boxes using Netterm. However this particular HP L1000 (HP-UX v11.00) keeps kicking us out. It's definitely not the Netterm setting as we do not encounter this problem using the same netterm to telnet to other HP_UX boxes.
Seems like out telnet session will expire if we leave it for an hour or so. The screen will still stay there, but when you come back and hit a key on that telnet session, the telnet window will close by itself.
I've tried using normal DOS prompt to telnet, but will still "timeout" and get the connection to host lost message.
Please help, as this is getting very irritating, when you walked off to do something else, and when you return to your desk and wanted to continue, the session timeout, and you didn't know where you left off.
Regards,
Shirley

Re: Timeout problem - Please help !
Check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for errors.
Some telnet patches have had problems. You might try applying PHNE_21822 and see if that corrects your problem.

Re: Timeout problem - Please help !
Check for env variable ... I think it's TMOUT . If that is set it will timeout a idle session.
Also make sure you are not running something like idled . We would on purposue run this to timeout idle users.

Re: Timeout problem - Please help !
Check for your environment variable TMOUT
If set to a value greater than zero, the shell will terminate if a command is not entered within the prescribed number of seconds after issuing the PS1 prompt.
Best regards,
Dan
