Tips to install Online JFS

Hi All

I have downloaded BaseVxFS_B.03.50.0_HP-UX_B.11.11_64.depot for installing in a HP C 3000 Workstation with B11.11.If i install in a system with swinstall will it ask any license for it.if so where can i get the license and what is the cost of it.Please advice.Thanks in advance

First, BaseVxFS is not the same as Online JFS. Online JFS is a licensed product that you have to purchase and you need a codeword to install it. Second, if I recall correctly, Online JFS does not work on workstations - only on servers.

SUPPORTED PLATFORMS
JFS 3.3 can be installed on HP servers and workstations that run HP-UX 11.0. It is not supported on earlier versions of HP-UX.

I checked after I wrote that and saw the same. I don't know whether it wasn't supported in the past or whether my memory is failing. It's tough getting old, you know!

Uprading to JFS 3.5 is pretty much a very simple upgrade. It requires a boot and a backup is a good idea prior to the install. make_tape_recovery before you start.

The product Vxfs is a base product. For JFS you need to purchase Online JFS from HP, HP will give you a code word and with that you can install the product.
