TOP command Memory usage output is not clear
Hi,
In Unix top command result, the memory usage and free is not clear to me.
I have attached the top command result of memory portion for our m/c
Please explain each value in this.
What is the figures in bracket and not in bracket ?
What is the last column value ( in this case 5465404K ) ?
Memory: 1430732K (811932K) real, 1511896K (1041452K) virtual, 5465404K free Page# 1/14
Thanks
R.Ezhil

Re: TOP command Memory usage output is not clear
1) The first number is the real memory in use. The one in bracket is the amount of memory considered "active". The same goes to second number but, it's virtual memory insead of real memory.
2) The last coulmn value is the amount of free memory available on the system.

Re: TOP command Memory usage output is not clear
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
You mentioned that the figure without bracket is memory in USE and bracket one indicates ACTIVE. And you said last one is
free memory. This is again confusion !!
The last one, is it free of real mem or virtual or both total ?
The words USE and ACTIVE looks similar.
Which is system total real memory and which is used or free memory ?
Please kindly clear my doubts with my attached report.
Thanks
R.Ezhil
