top doesn't show all processors

Hi all,

We just upgraded our hardware from two to four
processors running hpux 11i 64 bit. top only
shows processors 0, 2, and 3. The syslog and
mstm show all four processors. Why is the remaining processor not displayed in top?
Thanks.

Re: top doesn't show all processors

Matt,

Did mstm show all CPUs as active?

If you have glance, run this at a command prompt to see if you can see all 4 CPUs' activities:

# glance -a

Re: top doesn't show all processors

Matt,

This happened to me 2 weeks ago. Processor 1 in my system had actually gone bad and been deallocated by the system. If you saw it before in top, but don't see it now, I would say call HP hardware.

Re: top doesn't show all processors

Hi,

What is your box model?

Verify that the processors are available with the ioscan HP-UX command. Note the information provided by ioscan on the number of active processors is different from that reported during configuration.

#ioscan -fk|grep -i proc

Re: top doesn't show all processors

Do you have the latest patches for top (PHCO_25204) installed?

Re: top doesn't show all processors

Thanks for the quick responses.

glance -a shows all four processors w/no actvity on CPU 1. I went back into mstm and ran a full information report on the CPU in question and found that CPU 1 was not active. After speaking with hardware support, they believe this is an issue similar to the one Timothy posted. They are sending a field engineer to replace it.

Thanks again for all the help.........matt

This was the first time I've submitted a question, so I just read up on the points system and assigned them. Thanks Volkmar.
