Trivial Question: tcpdum/snoop on HP-UX 10.20

Please, excuse me for this question, but I'm a Solaris SysAdmin
"driving blind" a HP-UX, and I need to know if there is in the O.S.
something similar to snoop or tcpdump

Thanks a lot

Re: Trivial Question: tcpdum/snoop on HP-UX 10.20

Hi Francisco,

HP has something similar called nettl (man nettl).

But if you are comfortable with tcpdump, you can download and install tcpdump binaries from
http://hpux.ee.ualberta.ca/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/tcpdump-3.6.2

Remember you would also need libpcap.

But if you don't want to bother with installing tcpdump, attached is a doc on using nettl

Hi Francisco,

Here is another HP doc which tells you how to use nettl on a HP system.

I like using nettl. It's pretty decent. Check out the documentation given by Ramesh.

Also, there are many other softwares available that work like snoop.

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/snort-1.8.1/

Still I like nettl. It is not very friendly but if you do some reading, it's very handy.

Personally, I like snort very much. Its similar to tcpdump but does a whole lot more.

Btw, if you're planning to use ethereal, then you'll need to download some additional packages. Ethereal is nice because it has a nice simple to use GUI:

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/libpcap-0.6.2/

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Gtk/Development/glib-1.2.10/

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Gtk/Development/gtk+-1.2.10/

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Development/Libraries/snmp-1.14/
