I have connected up HDS 9960 disk to a HP L 3000 and to 3 partitions in a Superdome. All are using the A5158A fibre channel adapter. It is a point-to-point connection in FABRIC mode.
None of the systems can see the disk. Am I missing a new driver for Fabric mode (as opposed to loop)? Will this adapter see Fabric mode?
Thanks

Re: Trouble connecting to HDS 9960 disk
Hi Linda,
As a minimum you should have PHKL_21834 installed.
The other thing I would recommend is that the
systems have run at least on ioscan after a reboot.
I have seen on systems I have here, that rebooting
and running of ioscan does help. My environment
is slightly different in that we use a switch, but
the concept remains the same (fabric mode).
Good Luck
Michael

Solution
Linda,
There are a couple of areas to check.
1. Confirm that the ports on the 9960 are configured in the correct mode (fabric). Not all port modes support point to point.
2. Confirm the A5158A driver has been installed correctly. PHKL_21381 (or later) must be installed before the A5158A driver.
3. Confirm the LUNs assigned on the 9960 are in the range 0-7. HP don't support LUNs 8 and above as this is a non-HP device.
4. Check LUN security on the port. Depending on the level of firmware the 9960 may or may not enforece LUN security.
5. You need September 2000 patch release or later otherwise there are restrictions on what you can see. Without this level of patching you must have LUN 0 defined to the server.
I hope this helps.
