Trouble dettaching and attaching again USB devices

I've got an hp itanium2 running under HP-UX B.11.22. In an X-Window environment, if I dettach an USB device, like a mouse or a keyboard, and then attach it again, the system doesn't detect it. If I dettach both, mouse and keyboard, at the same time, I can't work with the system anymore. The same doesn't happen if not in X-Window, at least not with the keyboard. Please, which is the matter? Do exist any solution?

I had found that if I disconnect a mouse or keyboard more than once, I basically had to reboot to get these devices working properly again. This may not help but I have seen this problem with USB also on 11.11
