Trouble getting external enclosure to work

Hi all,
I have an external enclosure that contains two ST19171W drives:
http://search.seagate.com/cgi-bin/autonomy_ext.exe?numresults=1000&method=mainQuery&QuerySummaryCB=querysummary&batchhits=10&query=st19171w&Submit.x=0&Submit.y=0

I had this enclosure working using the fast-wide connection on the back of a C180 workstation. I'm now trying to upgrade to a C3000. I have an A4800A SCSI card:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/A3725-96031.pdf

I cable it up, use a wide-diff scsi terminator (HP part# A1658-63013, rev A). When I interupt the boot process and "SEA" the bus, it finds the external drives without a problem (I can even change the SCSI IDs, and it finds the new ones). However, once I boot, the drives are not visible and I'm getting lbolt SCSI Bus reset errors. I've tried multiple cables, tried different terminators (including a WIDE-SE SCSI LVD terminator), but nothing's working.

Am I missing something obvious here, because I'm at my wits end trying to get this installed and working.

Thanks for any help!
Chris

Re: Trouble getting external enclosure to work

Chris,

Page 10 of the PDF for the A4800A SCSI Card,

"supported on A, L, N and V Class."

Does the C3000 confirm to either of these standards or equivalencies?

Re: Trouble getting external enclosure to work

First point:
Jamaica enclosures (A3311A/A3312A/A3312AZ) cannot be used with the "Ultra" speeds of the A4800A. If those devices are connected to the A4800A, only "Fast" is supported.

Second point:
This card is NOT supported on a Workstation.

Re: Trouble getting external enclosure to work

I saw that in the doc, but I guess I assumed since the vendor sold it to us, that he knew it would work. I guess I need to go back and have a talk with him.

Anyone have a recommended card that works in a C3000 (and preferably in a C240 as well)?

Thanks for the quick replies!

Chris
You could look at somehting like the A4976A F/W Differential card.
This is supported in the C2400 and I believe in hte C3000 as well.

Re: Trouble getting external enclosure to work

Chris.

The card you have is not listed as supported by HP.
The A4976A card is supported in the C3000 and many other workstations.
I is also supported on the HASS as is the A4800A.

Could you check the PCI slot used for your current card. Here is a list of what they are.

SL1 64 Bit, 5.0V, 33MHz
SL2 Primary Graphics, 64 Bit, 3.3V, 66MHz
SL3 64 Bit, 5.0V, 33 MHz
SL4 Secondary Graphics, 64 Bit,5.0V, 33MHz
SL5 32 Bit,5.0V, 33 MHz (half card size)
SL6 32 Bit,5.0V, 33 MHz (half card size)

Good luck.
Trevor.
Baldric, I have a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasle.
