Trouble loading HPUX 11.0 onto J5000 workstation

I am trying to load 11.0 to a J5000 using the cdrom. I keep getting the same error.

Booting...
ENTRY_INIT failed, status = -4: Unrecoverable hardware error

some Hex codes

failed to initialize

Any suggestions? Thanks.

My best guess is that you need to update firmware before loading the OS. The CD could be bad but I'm betting on firmware. Check the Patch Database -> Firmware -> CPU and enter J5000 for a search string.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi,

I've never used a J, but based on a D :-

Can you run "sea" at the ISL prompt to look for the disks and cdrom? Do they show?

Can you check out the hardware from the INformation menu at the ISL prompt?

Does the J have an OS installed already? Can you boot it?

I'm guessing you have a dead cdrom.

Dave.

What HP-UX 11.0 CD are you using? You MUST use HP-UX 11.0 ACE9911 in order for the J5000 to work correctly.

See the following chart for details:

I just tried installing HPUX ll.i for workstations and the one for servers with the same error message. It must be the cdrom or the firmware. How do I get to the firmware?

Here's the firmware:

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
