Trusted System and system performance degrade

Hi,

Can anyone provide me info on how much difference will be there in overall system performance, if I convert my HP9000 system from Normal to Trusted. We have both L and N class servers.

Thanks and Regards,

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

Hi,

I've never seen a performance problem on any server that has been converted to trusted. I have a mixture of trusted and non-trusted servers in various classes and have never had such a problem.

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

Hi

I agree with Michael that there should be no pure performance difference.

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

As far as I know, trusted system is for enhancement of login management, password management and terminal management, the most concern is security, after the conversation, system admin can manage the system with improved security feature, trusted system also can enable the system auditing.

After the conversation,
1. login management
a. password required for single user mode
b. account locked after successive login failures
c. account locked after specified time of inactivity
d. ability to specify a lifetime on accounts

2. password management
a. more password generator
b. more password aging capabilities

3. terminal security
a. limit terminal access by time of day
b. limit terminal access to certain user accounts

Speaking of performance, it is another story, I don't think trusted system has any performance issue. Fyi.

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

I've never had a performance hit by trusting a system. Seems strange.
What's performance hit are you getting?

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

Hi,

Thanks for all your responses..I haven't yet converted my system to Trusted..and hence haven't faced the performance problem..Only I wanted to know, if something like that would happen, before actually doing this, since this involves auditing and all.

Thanks and regards,

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

Hi Abdul,

I've never had nor noticed performance problems running trusted. But I have encountered corruption of a ../tcb/auth file or two in the past - usually due to an untimely crash or an FS filling up. But these are easy to recover from & easier to prevent.

Re: Trusted System and system performance degrade

One more point, Abdul. If you do turn your audit system on, it is really depends on what kind of option you select, if you turn on all the options, you will receive tons of log files, it shoud be a space issue if you don't have enough space, it will cost some of your resources, e.g. cpu, memory, as well.

So good planning, and make sure you have cron job to recycle those log files regularly.
