trusted system error

tried to convert to trusted system and got the following error:
phap1026:/etc#tsconvert
Creating secure password database...
Directories created.
Making default files.
System default file created...
Terminal default file created...
Device assignment file created...
Moving passwords...
Can't write protected database;
password file unchanged.

any suggestions?

the only supported way of trusting and untrusting a system is through sam.

you may have bad entries in your password file.


run

pwck /etc/passwd

remove or replace bad characters in the passwd file and try the convert again

Did someone (as root) change permissions and/or ownership for / and /etc?
