I can do telnet, but I don??t remember how unlock this terminal, something like in the file /tcb/files/aut/r/root ????

Thanks,

Valkiria,

If you can telnet to your workstation, then use sam to unlock the account.

You should always have console access

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Are you having problems accessing your workstation or your server?

Do you have the root passwords for both the workstation and the server?

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Harry, I need access my workstation (HPC110) logged as root... but I get access my server (as root) from telnet from any workstation.

I??m root! - joke - I??m a system adminitrator.

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Valkiria,

So your workstation is locked, but you can access it from another workstation, correct?

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Telnet into your work station, If you set your display back to the workstation your are using to telnet from, then you can use the graphical version of sam. I don't use the character one, so my instructions slightly lame:

start sam,
select accounts for users and groups,
select users,
highlight root,
right mouse button click,
reactivate.

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Hello,

I do not like to interrupt your discussion on using menus and/or GUIs, but if you can login as super-user (other than "root"), wouldn't it be worth to try

/usr/lbin/modprpw -k root
or
/usr/lbin/modprpw -x root

and be done? :-)

Regards,
Wodisch
PS: I'll never seem to be able to remember which option is for "root" only, it's either "-x" or "-k"...

Good point there Wodisch, shows you how often I use the command line --- like not to often...

Make sure your terminal is listed in the /tcb/files/ttys file.

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Hi Valkiria,

Take a look at this thread,

http://us-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=948c0e0b04d62f73b0/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000024602436

The file you should be looking at is "/tcb/files/ttys"

Hope this helps.

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Ok, I had this happen when the passwd or group file was corrupted.

Reboot the system.
Interrupt the boot.
enter bo pri
and answer yes to interract with the OS.
at the > prompt enter hpux -s
This will get you into single user mode without a password.

Then you can check the passwd/group file and try it again.

Good luck

Re: Trusted System locked my terminal

Hi Valkiria,

the only thing you have to do is to logon in textmode as root on your workstation ( on graphic login screen klick command line login ) and then root will be unlocked.

Allways stay on the bright side of life!
