Turning off multicasting

Hi everyone,

Our network administrator tells me that one of our rx4640-machines sends out these messages :

Sunxx.telia.se 2005 Jul 11 18:27:35 MET-DST +02:00 %MCAST-2-IGMP_FALLBACK:IGMP: Running in FALL BACK mode
> sunxx.telia.se 2005 Jul 11 18:27:35 MET-DST +02:00 %MCAST-2-IGMP_ADDRALDETAILS:IGMP: Multicast address aliasing: From 00-30-6e-f4-82-bb (131.115.4.131) on 2/4 to 01-00-5e-00-
> sunxx.telia.se 2005 Jul 11 19:22:34 MET-DST +02:00 %MCAST-2-IGMP_ADDRAL:IGMP: Address Aliasing for 01-00-5e-00-00-04

He suggests that we probably should turn off the Multicasting but I don't know how to do that. The strange thing is that I can't find any diffrences in the netconf-file on this machine compared to ones on our other similar machines. Any ideas?

Re: Turning off multicasting

Hi mandana

check /etc/gated.conf file...

for help see man 4 gated-config
see also /usr/examples/gated directory for readme files and configuration files

check with other boxes , how this file is configured...

Good luck !!!

i am not sure whether it applies to HP-UX. but i believe you can do this using ifconfig command.

Hope this helps,

Re: Turning off multicasting

I checked gated.conf. There is only one row in the file:
rip yes;

But once again this file looks exactly like files on the other machines. How come the other machines are not sending out messages?

About using ifconfig, I can't find anything particular about Multicasting on ifconfig man-page.
