Turning off NIS YPbind on HP-UX 11 (hprx2660)
I have a HPRX-2660 running HP-UX 11 and while trying to boot it gets stuck at this part -
Start NFS client subsystem .................................. OK
05.08 12:19:34 hprx2660 pid=1165 /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypbind
NIS: server not responding for domain "DOMAIN" still trying
Is there a way to turn off NIS/ypbind through maybe the BIOS in order for the system to boot into the system properly? Once the system is booted into HP-UX, I can make the changes to the NIS setting.
Thanks!
Jeremy

Re: Turning off NIS YPbind on HP-UX 11 (hprx2660)
In the /etc/rc.config.d directory there is a file called 'namesvrs'.
That file controls YP / NIS, among other things.
To turn off YP / NIS, make sure the following lines are set:
NIS_MASTER_SERVER=0
NIS_SLAVE_SERVER=0
NIS_CLIENT=0
NIS_DOMAIN=
Now YP / NIS should not start.

Hello Patrick,
Is there a way to edit that file through EFI Boot Manager settings?

Re: Turning off NIS YPbind on HP-UX 11 (hprx2660)
No, there is not.
However, you can boot the server into single-user mode, mount all VG00 file systems and then edit that file. Once done, reboot and come up normally.

Re: Turning off NIS YPbind on HP-UX 11.31 (rx2660)
Can't you hit control shift "[" a break (or control-\ or something like that) to get it to skip that step?

Re: Turning off NIS YPbind on HP-UX 11.31 (rx2660)
CTRL + \ did skip the NIS line and the system booted into the OS. Thank you everyone for your help!
