two hosts connected to one DS2405

Hi
I have 2 servers RP-3410 and one disk rack DS2405 with 6 disks, I want to use 3 disks for each server, some one told me that if I put 3 disks in position 1,2 and 3 and the other 3 disks in 9,10 and 11 (leaving free 8 position), each server will see only 3 disks not the total of six.
Is this possible?
I already made it, but each server see the complete 6 disks not only 3.
Can somebody help me?

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

So long as no two disks have the same scsi address, you should be fine.

Another gotcha to watch for is the SCSI ID of the SCSI card connecting to the array. Whatever the factory default is may need to be changed. On the servers I work with thats a jumper cable. On your more modern machines, that probably can be set via software/instance number change.

Can I see both machines ioscan -fnC disk output please?

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

Hi,

As far as I know, DS2405 is connected to computers via fiber channel, so you don't have to update controllers' SCSI ID.
Additionally I don't think that you can prevent a computer to see shared disks. You only have to define which disks belongs to which computer.

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

I think you are referring to what is known as split bus mode, where one half of the discs are seen down one controller, the other half down the other.
I am not sure that a DS2405 can do this, like an SC10 can

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

Thanks for your help.
Now one of the servers is not available, but I made the test connecting array with the 2 scsi cards of one of the server.
You can check the ioscan.

I was hopping see only:
0/3/1/0/4/0.8.0.255.0.0.0
0/3/1/0/4/0.8.0.255.0.1.0
0/3/1/0/4/0.8.0.255.0.2.0
0/4/1/0.8.0.255.0.8.0
0/4/1/0.8.0.255.0.9.0
0/4/1/0.8.0.255.0.10.0

but I am seeing like 12 disks instead.

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

Victor,
You are right are connected via fiber channel

Melvin,
Yes, I want to do something like that. supposedly leaving the 8 position free in the DS2405 can be possible.

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

This document tells how to do this for an SC10. Not sure if this will help in your quest. The process listed is a bit different:

Re: two hosts connected to one DS2405

Thank you for you quick responses, I already confirmed it with an HP hardware engineer and told me that is not possible in DS2405 only in SC10 disks.
