two tape drive on same scsi ID 3 (possible)

Hi All,

OS:HP-UX 11.11
Server:rp7410
DB:Oracle 10g RAC

hp surestore tape array 5300(pic attached)

The above tape array use by one of the tape drive and i wanted to installed a new tape drive by keeping the existing one as well.

* Does this multiple tape drive installation possible on hp-ux server.
*Does it require driver installation as "stape" already IN IN under kernal drivers.
*Does it change kernel parameters.
*As i noticed the tape array :Bay1 SCSI ID 3 is used by the existing tape drive (sure store DLT 80).
*Available is "Bay3 SCSI ID 3(same as above)" Can i use this with a cable C2978B REV:E..... 5183-2670 ..... FDCH 0803 with terminator.
*What precautions need to be follows.

Have a lovely to all genius :)

Re: two tape drive on same scsi ID 3 (possible)

better you change the scsi id of bay three two someting else other than 3.

Hp-ux will support multiple tape drives.
No driver installation is required.
no need to change any kernel parameter.

after connecting tape drive do

insf -C tape
ioscan -fnC tape

Yes defnitely you can change scsi id in bay3.see the picture there I marked with red colour in which there is a small switch you should press it then no: will change.
After that you can connect the cable with terminator.

Re: two tape drive on same scsi ID 3 (possible)

Hi,

I appreciate ur valuable input........

After changing SCSI ID , as existing Bay1 SCSI ID 3 belongs to node_abc1.

If i choose Bay3 SCSI ID 5 , *How can i present this SCSI 5 to node_abc1.

You have a DLT80 already but you did not mention the model of tape drive. Tape drives don't play well with each other on a single bus. As long as you only use on drive at a time, you may be OK but it depends on the other drive model. Ultrium drives, especially LTO2 and higher, will have reliability and throughput problems.

Re: two tape drive on same scsi ID 3 (possible)

Hi,

The tape & tape drive details are:

DLT IV sure store DLT80 (Tape drive)
existing cartridge model is C5141F (40-80GB).

But i have a data of 110GB , does above compressed upto 80GB or for server model like rp7410 support latest tape drives.

Kindly recommend multiple drive use is better or replace new drive with more capacity and compatible to existing drive of above model on my server rp7410.
